Banking Black

Something wonderful seems to be gaining traction in the black community. Early this week Citizens Trust Bank a black tun baking institution had a drive to bring in new accounts to strengthen the bank and put it position to grow and help service an undeserved community. This is wonderful news and I hope more black owned institutions take heed and follow in Citizens’ move to empower the community that so desperately needs it.

The bank is headquartered Atlanta Georgia, it’s door open in 1921. The was the brain child of African American businessman. The bank was headed by Heman Perry, who served as the first chairman of the board, and Henry C. Dugas who was Citizens Trust’s first president. So this bank has been around a good while and I for one had never heard of the bank. T have heard of other black owned banks like Industrial Bank in Washington D.C.

Many Atlanta African American entertainers show up to start new accounts and support the bank’s new program. Some of those attending were long time Hip Hop producer Jermaine Dupri , others included Rapper Big Krit, R&B singer Usher and Rapper Killa Mike rounded up some of the top names in attendance. I am so proud to see our business and banking community coming together to work with the community families and small black businesses to make some changes in the financial landscape.

I hope our people supports this bank and others like it because it may be our only chance to make some last changes for our people and the communities with live in. Please take some time to research the banks and open an account if it’s right for you.
